In 1995, Contemporary Art from Taiwan debuted at the international exhibition stage of the Venice Biennale. In the five showings since this debut, the exhibitions have been titled “ART TAIWAN 1995”, “TAIWAN,TAIWAN:facing faces 1997” , “Close to Open:Taiwanese Artists Exposed 1999” , “LIVING CELL 2001”, and “LIMBO ZONE 2003”. The sixth edition begins early June. On this special occasion, 22 of the participating artists to date will hold retrospectives, once again attempting to interpret and understand contemporary art from Taiwan from 1995 to 2003. Furthermore, the artists will ponder on the culture, society and political developments in Taiwan’s contemporary art scene since the 1990s.
