200 Exhibitors Join Together for “Art Beijing 2012” After six years of growth and maturation, Art Beijing has established itself as one of Asia’s most influential art fairs. Today, this high-end creative cultural project enjoys tremendous support from the Beijing Municipal Government, as well as art enthusiasts, galleries, and art organizations. This spring, for the first time, the "Art Beijing • Contemporary Art Fair" and “Art Beijing • Fine Art Fair” will be held jointly as “Art Beijing 2012” at the Beijing Agricultural Exhibition Center of China, presenting a magnificent next step for Art Beijing. At this year’s exhibition, Art Beijing builds on its “locally based and Asia-oriented” concept to further deepen its cooperation with local art galleries in China, as well as with galleries throughout the Asia-Pacific region, and with galleries in the United States and Europe. Together, Art Beijing and its partners seek common ground in integrating art resources and presenting different perspectives on culture and art from various countries and regions. Since last October, when the exhibition invitation was launched, the Art Beijing Executive Committee has received applications from about 300 arts institutions. After a rigorous examination by the Art Beijing Art Committee, we have selected about 200 galleries, art agencies, embassies and culture centers to participate in Art Beijing 2012. Art Beijing 2012 will be divided into two sections: the Contemporary Art and Classic Art. The total exhibition area will be approximately 20,000 sq. meters, making it the largest art fair in Asia. Contemporary Art Section: Over 100 Art Organizations Explore Asian Concepts in Contemporary Art Located in the new building of the Agricultural Exhibition Center, the Contemporary Art Hall will display various contemporary art works from hundreds of domestic and international galleries and art organizations. Meanwhile, the “Art Unforbidden” and “Photo Beijing” theme exhibitions will continue to highlight academic and commercial trends in the art market by displaying pioneering and experimental contemporary art works. Classic Art Section: Chinese and Western Art Galleries Exhibit Masterworks of Classical Culture The Classic Art Section is outside the main exhibition area, and includes the participation of nearly 40 Chinese and Western classical art galleries and organizations. Exhibited art forms include Chinese traditional ink and wash painting, decorative painting, and porcelain, as well as Western classical oil painting, sculpture, and classical furniture. This year, Art Beijing will also join hands with three art institutions to present one special oil painting theme exhibition and two ink and wash painting theme exhibitions. Abundant and Diverse Art Events The pre-auction exhibition area, “Art Platform”, special art charity projects, and VIP Education Forum are also key highlights for Art Beijing 2012. Six of Asia’s top auction houses will curate highly anticipated pre-auction exhibitions. A total of 11 non-profit institutions, including foreign embassies in Beijing, will form the heart of this year’s “Art Platform”. Meanwhile, the 2012 art charity projects consist of events to raise money for Free Lunch for Children and Art of the Innocent. Art Beijing aims to leverage the influence of its prestigious art fair to bring love and care to children in need. The VIP Education Forum will invite leading experts, scholars and industry professionals from both at home and abroad to discuss the latest trends and hot topics in art collection and the art market. Art Beijing 2012 breaks with the homogenizing trend of the world’s art fairs to establish its own distinct program. Art Beijing continually promotes the development of China’s culture and knowledge of art, helping the public more deeply appreciate the beauty of art. In doing so, Art Beijing aims to help the arts truly serve our people, to further promote the development of China’s fine arts education, and to cultivate the progress of culture throughout all of society.
