Life can be different; it can be complex and intertwined, or, like playing "hopscotch," light and simple. We are born into a square, the square of family of origin, then we move onto the next one, the square of school, where we acquire survival skills. Then we go into the large square of society where we hone our knowledge and intelligence. We then strive to support our own square of family, and ultimately we skip into the covered square where we take an eternal vacation…. Art is created in these squares of various sizes. Since the beginning of time, most artworks, regardless of how famous they are, are related to life. Throughout the process of hopscotch of life, artists convert all the collisions, emotions, and thoughts into works. They are artists` depictions, longings, and reflections of life. Artists write own life through art in various squares in life; we are also trying to spark exciting lives of our own within our own domains. Art Bank, Taiwan, will use the theme "Hopscotch" and host art exhibitions and activities in Tainan, Taichung, and Taipei, allowing visitors to travel between squares of various sizes in the cities and venues. They can walk according to own paces, and feel the emotions brought by art. 2016 "Hopscotch—Art Bank Relay Exhibition" includes "Wandering the Squares: Let`s Stroll down the Streets together" in Tainan, "Planning the Squares: Filling in the Blank in the City" in Taichung, and "Creating Squares: More than Making Planes" in Taipei. Let`s wander around in the vibrant and hospitable commercial area at Zhengxing Street in Tainan, and enjoy the charm of old houses and innovative creativity; in Taichung, Art Bank fills in the blanks of the city with art. Walk into an interesting art space, and meet the latest acquisitions for the first time; Taipei Air Force Base used to be off limits, but today you can walk or even skip in there, creating unlimited imaginations. It is your turn to play hopscotch!
